Hello

I'm Julie Barré, founder & principal consultant of JUBE Consulting. As a consultant for nearly 20 years and in the workforce for over 30, I've pretty much seen it all! As such, I'm ready for anything a transition or transformation initiative might bring your way, and can help your team prepare accordingly.

My Story

After several years of coaching and training staff on the reservation systems of two Canadian airlines, at the age of 27 I accepted a severance package and retired to complete my studies on a full-time basis. I completed my bachelor's degree in psychology and then completed an MBA in strategic management at the prestigious Sauder School of Business at the University of British Columbia (BC).

These formative years not only instilled many skills in me, but also crystallized more clearly in my mind (and heart) that I needed to persevere in a career that would help the world in a human way. Majoring in finance and focusing solely on money wasn't the way for me.

After graduating, I decided to focus my attention on the health care system, which was in dire need of modernization. I put my knowledge and talents to good use by accepting a project manager contract with one of the BC health authorities. That's how I "stumbled" into project management.

From there, I continued from project to project as a project manager (or a variation of this). However, the role was often more than just being a project manager. As a result, I acquired and refined many of my skills and knowledge in areas beyond management, particularly in health and information technology.

While I have enjoyed my years as a project manager immensely, I have also found that I take great pleasure in building the capacity of organizations and their teams to execute projects properly. I have also observed that too often project management experts are only called upon once the project has been approved or even once it has already begun. This means that PMs are not involved in choosing the solution or defining the objectives of the project and selecting a team that will set the project up for success. I have often been parachuted in to rescue projects that are in jeopardy – in part or in whole – due to this situation. I've always been able to get them back on track, but I've often wondered why I couldn't use my skills to help my clients prevent this from happening in the first place?

I imagined that by combining my background in business administration with my extensive experience in project management, I would help operational teams better define their needs, identify the solution that meets their needs, and set themselves up for success when delivering the project. I hope my roadmap speaks for itself and that you trust me to make your team's job easier.
